Sports Day 2011: Battle of the Midlands

The DMU view of the day: Chisha Chitambala DMU’s Sports Coordinator (Dmu Bias Ofcourse) Event: 100m Sprint/Relay

Hey to all ACS members of all universities, who may view this Entry!
Let me firstly say, YOU, yes YOU (this bit becomes awkward if you were there) missed out on an exciting and eventful Sports day held jointly by both Nottingham and Nottingham Trents ACS.

Were we going 2 actually leave Leicester though?
We were supposed to leave our Campus for 10.30am! Dmu Acs students are normally associated with their ‘excellent time management skills’, so it was surprising when some were still sleeping at 11 and others walking into the mini bus at 11.15. However we still did manage to make it on time!

The Rain!
It Rained alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll dddddddddddddaaaaaaaaaaayyyy! But that didn't dampen our spirits everyone was still eager to compete.

On Arrival
We were greeted with rain of course.  Assorted into the lions den (away from home) with or own security... the stadium atmosphere was quite hostile! The attendance from both Nottingham and Nottingham Trent students, considering the weather, was really good, with at least 150 spectators and atheletes.

The Events
The track conditions were difficult to perform on, but the performance  from students from each university were outstanding -not to mention the exceptional running from DMU studentsJ.
100m heats were first, with both heats being very close, but littered with false starts (we were all spared disqualification).
Egg and Spoon race followed with pure controversy (Notts cough), but as was the novelty event of the day, was lots of fun to watch.
5 aside football continued on the green in the middle of the stadium. Even studded boots weren’t keeping players standing it was that wet!!. It was also VERY competitive to say the least, but was good to see students representing their uni’s with passion. It ended in smiles with Nottingham trent A taking Gold
400m Men’s and Women’s were both races of great quality and very good performances. DMU took Gold in the mens with an outstanding performance from Osi neako. I also recall the women’s race being one of the most exciting of the day.
100 Women’s Finals False Starts GALORE! I think they all made a decision pre race together to keep us waiting for a good start. The race was again a very competitive race, BUT once again DMU prevailed with Precious Ola DMU’s own athletic ‘superstar’ taking Gold in a time of 9.5secs (but for real she looked that quick).
Tug of war was EPICThere were Monsters who had not taken part all day who suddenly emerged from the shadows of the stadium to grace the field for the event. There were also girls from nottingham trent or Nottingham not 2 sure that may have needed a drugs test they were all so powerful. In the end DMU and Nottignham Trent Share the spoils, as no winner could be decided in both the mens and womens.
100m Mens Final and Relay Once again DMU dominated (should I say anything more). They were both really exciting races, with surprisingly no false starts. DMU Men took both Gold and Silver, and Gold in the relay, with sterling performances from the Nottingham teams(cheekiness I know).

The Atmosphere
All day, the vibe and atmosphere in the stadium was great despite the weather. There was music from a DJ  throughout giving us vybz, team colours were being ‘repped hard’ (allow me this 1 informal moment) and every event got full attention from all the spectators. Each uni cheered on their teams until voices were gone with their own Uni unique chants. I also met a lot of people from Nottingham uni’s who I plan to keep in contact with over the next few years.

The Result
Some impressive medals were given out to all winners in the closing ceremony, with NTU announced the winners (followed by some silly song ‘trent man on dis’????? and I know my biasedness made it look like we won I know), DMU 2nd and Nottingham Last :)

...Final Words
It was a really good day out for us DMU ACS students, one that we can all say we thoroughly enjoyed. It was also very well planned by Nottingham and Nottingham trent acs. They were great hosts and we hope to invite you to Leicester in the near future!                IGODMU!!
